Located in Midtown Manhattan, along the busy Madison Avenue, this existing commercial unit has undergone an extensive renovation to become a vision center. The existing interior was completely gutted to allow for new furring, partitions, flooring, and dropped ceiling. In implementing the new floor layout, the placement of the new partition strenghtened the functionality and visual cohesion of the office and retail areas. The bathroom now opens into the office space rather than the retail area, and the office itself was significantly enlarged to meet the needs of the staff. Facing the retail area, a niche was implemented in order to fit a custom Cartier display unit. The floor of the retail space consists of a checkerboard of 12x12 light and dark marble tiles in the center, and surrounded by 36x6 light ceramic tiles. The sales desks, reception, and waiting area furniture was carefully arranged for easy egress throughout the space as well as visual balance.
